SAN FRANCISCO — Google called a breakfast press conference today to show off the new Nexus 7, a high-resolution version of the original 7-inch Google tablet.
The new Nexus 7 will also be the first Android device to ship with Android Jelly Bean 4.3.
Android chief Hugo Barra (pictured above) said the new device, which is built by Asus, will also feature front (1.2MP) and rear (5MP) cameras, 2 gigabytes of RAM, and a 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor (for better gaming experiences).
The 1080p screen was touted by Barra as having the highest resolution of any tablet in the 7-inch class.
For connectivity, you’ll find WiFi and Bluetooth options, as well as an unlocked 4G LTE model for the U.S. market.
The new version of Android will allow for restricted profiles, allowing parents to set limits for their kids, including what apps can be accessed and how those apps can behave.
Best Buy is already selling the new tablets for a mere $230 for the 16 gigabyte model starts at $230 and $270 for the 32 gigabyte model is $270.
Stay tuned for more from today’s press event.
