While the White House doesn’t have a presence at San Diego’s Comic-Con, which kicked off yesterday, it’s certainly there in spirit with today’s “We the Geeks” Google+ Hangout.
Dubbed “The Stuff Superheroes Are Made Of,” the live broadcast will feature scientists developing technology and materials ripped straight out of comic books, including invisibility cloaks, self healing and touch-sensitive synthetic skin, and “impenetrable” liquid armor.
The discussion will kick off at 12 p.m Eastern today on the White House’s Google+ page.
The expert panel includes James Kakalios, a University of Minnesota professor of physics and astronomy, and author of The Physics of Superheroes; Zhenan Bao, a professor of chemical engineering at Stanford, who’s developing synthetic skin; Nathan Landy, a Duke grad student developing invisibility cloak technology; and others.
The panel will also discuss how the Obama administration’s Materials Genome Initiative is helping to make these discoveries possible.
