Microsoft just reported its results for Q4 of its fiscal 2013, which ended June 30. Overall, the company fell short of its own projections, and the Xbox 360 didn’t help.

The multimedia conglomerate revealed that it shipped only 1 million Xbox 360 consoles in Q4. That’s down from 1.1 million in the Q4 of fiscal 2012. As a whole, Microsoft’s Entertainment and Devices Division, which houses the Xbox group, actually increased revenue, but Windows Phone can take the bulk of the credit for that. EDD’s revenue was up $134 million to $1.8 billion. That’s an 8 percent increase over the previous quarter.

Windows Phone alone accounted for a $222 million increase, which means the aging Xbox 360 is dragging down the division. The EDD’s operating income increased to $142 million due to the increased revenue.

During this quarter, Microsoft finally unveiled its next-gen Xbox One console. That new device is due out in November and should perk up the division.
