SAN FRANCISCO – At today's big Google event, we got wind of a developer preview for Chromecast.
Chromecast is a Roku-like stick that lets folks stream content from a mobile device or laptop to a TV screen. Right now, YouTube, Google Music, and Netflix work as Chromecast apps, and Pandora is coming soon to the platform.
If you, yourself, want to give your app big(ger) screen capabilities, you don't have to wait too long or work too hard.
As of today, there's a Google Cast SDK to enable interactions between devices and TVs. The SKD will let you start casting your content with a few modifications rather than requiring you to rebuild the app from the ground up.
Libraries for Android, Chrome, and iOS are launching today along with the SDK developer preview.
"Over time, we expect the technology to be embedded in a range of devices from our partners," said the Chromecast lead onstage today.
Chromecase is compatible with Chrome apps (duh) on all platforms as well as Android and iOS applications.
